"Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity."--Henry Van DykeA positive understanding of time is so pivotal to success in marketing (and in life) that I decided to dedicate another issue of Mindful Marketing to the concept.
May you use your time wisely to create the life of your dreams.

What Time Is It?
by Margaret J. Marcuson
What time is it? Jon Kabat-Zinn, in his new book, Coming to Our Senses, suggests, "When we ask what time it is, there is only one answer, and it shapes the moment no matter what Big Ben or your alarm clock or your watch, or the Grand Canyon, is telling you. Guess what? Once again, it is now." For every human being, now is the most powerful moment. We can make choices only in this moment. We can be present only in this moment. Awareness of the present moment, and of ourselves in it, can make a profound difference in the way we live. In the moment, I can learn about myself: now I get tremendous energy. Now my heart pounds. Now I experience frustration. Now I notice great joy. Now I am tired. Now I have a terrific idea. The Greek language has two words for time: chronos, or chronological time, and kairos, meaning the right time. From the perspective of mindful awareness, every time is kairos. Every time is the right time. We can learn something in each moment, if we pay attention to it. Whether we think things are going well or badly, each moment is a teacher. Chronos does move forward. The past influences the present, and we pay attention to the moments that have come before, and the people and forces that have shaped the present. The future will come, and we pay attention to vision, to direction, and where we think we are headed.
But the only moment we live in is now. If we dwell on the past or the future, we can miss the gift of the present, the smile of our child, the wonderful idea of our colleague, the summer sunshine. In my own daily meditation one day this week I noticed for the first time the sensation of air in my windpipe as I breathed. I have been breathing daily my whole life, and I had never sensed that consciously before. When we try to be truly present, we may be surprised, as I was. We can see the gifts and strengths of people we only perceived as problem before. We can see the opportunity in the crisis before us. In the moment, we see reality.
