Marketing Like a Turkey
By Megan McDonough
March is over and so is maple syrup season. Along with teaching yoga and running Mindful Marketing, I also help out on the family farm where we make the world's best maple syrup (she said ever so humbly).
Fred was the big attraction this weekend at our open house. This wild turkey that calls the Hardwick Sugar Shack home was feeling frisky. It's mating season for Fred, and he wanted to show everyone how wonderful he looked as he puffed out his chest, elongated his purple snout, fanned out his tail feathers, and made his neck beet-red.
Yes, Fred, we see that you are all that and more.
In fact, Fred did get lucky this weekend — right in front of all the preschool children. I'm quite sure Mom and Dad weren't prepared for Junior's question, "What's he doing to that other turkey, Mom?"
Besides just being a cool and hip turkey, Fred has a lesson or two to teach us about marketing. He says:
- Be fearless about what you have to offer
- Shameless self-promotion has a season (but don't overdo it)
- Rejection today might turn into success tomorrow
- Someone out there wants what you have to give
Now get out there and strut your stuff!
